Gemma McAllister founder of Wear Matter is a fashion design graduate with over 6 years experience across a range of different design and buying roles for well known high street brands. With a global pandemic forging a career change for many, Gemma started a career in Disability Services. It was her passion for working as part of the disability services network alongside her experience and flair for buying and design that Wear Matter was born.

This is just the beginning of our story,  a personal story that I share with you that I myself am disabled,  a number of my family and friends have a disability and a close family member of mine has visual impairments and struggles with clothing daily. It is here that Wear Matter begins. Bringing clothing that is adaptive and functional, offering great products to as many people as possible without exclusion.

The operation of the fashion industry and countless repetitive garments that are created over and over again are causing an impact on our planet. The industry is not what I expected and I have always went in to fashion design with the intention of creating something that has a purpose. A piece of clothing can bring about happiness, confidence and independence, the fact a piece of fabric can be turned into a functional 3D garment really excites me and why I choose fashion, I will continue to design for a reason.

We will write the next chapter together, because you MATTER!
